I have used the remarkable tablet for about 1 year now. And I have been getting a lot of questions about the novel tablet with an interesting paper like screen, and wanted to share my experiences with it.

For the most part, the tablet has replaced my usage of paper, and I only keep paper on me for fleeting ideas that I write down when I am not able to carry my tablet (for example at the gym, on a walk, or to write down a message for someone).

I would recommend anyone who has the money to spare to buy one of these, because I feel it really does save time and the environment! There is the upfront investment in the tablet, and possibly having to buy pen nibs as well (as they do wear down with use) as well, but there are other styluses you can buy that work with the remarkable tablet, and don’t need replaced nibs.

There is an open community which hack the software to find all sorts of fun things to do with it. Like replicate mouse usage, and terminal on the screen.

The current one I use it the first version, which is unfortunately discontinued, but there is a new version and you could do the planet (and your wallet!) an even bigger favour by buying second hand.

Does it feel like paper?

Despite being very close to the feel of paper, you can tell the difference. But I do like the feel of it compared to paper. The drawing on it is quite pleasant. There are other products that seem really cool, like onyx with a colour e-ink interface. I love the feel of the tablet.

Software and User Experience

The template feature is great, but I prefer to remove all of the templates before I export, but I have to do so to every page manually (without “hacking” the software), which can take a long time as the software can be slow (to allow for a longer battery life and great form factor), the upload feature works well enough, but in times of need I use the file transfer feature to allow usage from a web browser. The application on the computer isn’t for me. The new Dropbox and GoogleDrive integration is a really cool idea.

Other Pros

- As many pdfs, notes, drawing as I want to have right there!
- Much easier to use then paper, with adding layers, transforming lines, erasing, different pen nibs, undoing, copy paste, cloud storage, amazing form factor.
- Feels as close to paper as I need it to be.
- You can even add custom made programs to help with your workflow, I personally haven't (yet) and there may be a way to mass remove the templates.

Cons

- It won't feel exactly like paper, it is a lot smoother, but the feel is something that you get used to. Paper does feel a lot better.
- You would have to use it for a long time in order to save money compared to paper.
