I understand if this topic is too taboo, and the target audience is the age of majority. These topics are often taboo and therefore a lot of this understanding and knowledge is wasted, and no one learns about a deep and core part of being human.
It’s that time of the month. Is the “nofap” community associated with No Nut November a good community to be a part of? How am I so sure that abstaining from sexual desires is a good thing? To make a long story short, I don’t know for sure that this is a better way to live life, and I will never know for sure unless I try this out for myself. Here are the reasons that compel me so far.
‘We shouldn’t do things that we wouldn’t be okay with the general public knowing about’ is a paraphrase from the YouTube video. I think that is where a lot of the self esteem issues come from. The self esteem issues come from you having to deal with the fact that you have a hidden life, something that is separate from your loved ones and reality.
The common argument is that “there is nothing wrong with masturbation or porn use”. Let’s consider porn use. When someone becomes a pornstar, they seriously jeopardise any future relationships and many believe that pornstars shouldn’t have children, because of the shame and bullying it may bring the child. I think everyone should have the gift of raising a child, I think that is something that people should experience in their lives, and we often overlook that in our rat race lives. Then by that logic there should be no pornstars. But what gives pornstars money? The demand for them. Much like a vegan wants to stop the demand for factory farmed meat, a “fapstranaut” wants to reduce the demand for pornography.
And when it comes to masturbation, I do agree that it is a lot less harmful than masturbation with porn use. It is natural (although this is an appeal to nature fallacy). This is where the argument of time is put into place. A lot of time is wasted on it, and afterwards you end up feeling tired. The benefits may be a slight mood increase, and a form of alleviating stress. However it still may train you to objectify women and such.
And then there’s a spiritual side of things. It is a major form of spiritual distraction. It can make you more materially grounded.
Let’s assume that the psyche has a similar response to porn and masturbation as sex does. After you have sex, you have a need to bond with your partner, and if there was no partner, then you would feel the most lonely.
